Frequently Asked Questions

General Overview

The High School Alliance of Future Physicians (HSAFP) is a nationwide program that connects high school students with the resources, mentorship, and hands‑on experiences they need to prepare for a career in medicine. HSAFP offers a physician‑crafted curriculum, virtual and in‑person medical skills workshops, shadowing and research opportunities, and college‑admissions guidance, all designed to equip aspiring future physicians with critical pre‑med competencies and leadership experience.

An HSAFP membership ($25/year) gives you access to a physician‑crafted monthly curriculum with hands‑on medical workshops, virtual shadowing, volunteering and research opportunities, expert‑led webinars and college application guidance. You can earn digital certificates and honor cords, apply for scholarships, join research journal clubs, lead community health projects, and connect with peers and mentors in our national network.

With medical school acceptance rates at just 5%, success starts before med school. HSAFP lets you explore medicine early through physician‑led workshops, virtual shadowing and community health projects. You build a résumé that stands out, develop leadership skills, and see if medicine is right for you before college even begins.

HSAFP provides tailored college‑admissions support through expert‑led webinars featuring former admissions officers and college advisors, pre‑med application workshops, and one‑on‑one guidance on crafting a standout profile. Students will build a competitive resume by earning digital certificates and honor cords for demonstrating AAMC pre‑med competencies, completing hands‑on workshops, virtual shadowing and community service projects, and you gain access to scholarship opportunities and a nationwide network of physician and advisor mentors to strengthen your application.

Getting Involved

Any motivated high school student can start an official HSAFP chapter by completing the “Start a Chapter” form at hsafp.org/apply. Only students (not parents) may lead and set up a Chapter President. Once approved, you'll form a student leadership team with roles such as vice-president, secretary, and treasurer. Chapters must have an adult advisor: for in-person clubs, this must be a teacher or faculty member; for virtual chapters, a parent or other adult supporter may fill the role. HSAFP provides step-by-step guidance and all the resources you need to get started.

New chapters gain full launch support via the HSAFP Pioneer portal, including step‑by‑step meeting guides, slide decks and member‑recruitment templates, detailed agendas and curriculum materials for the year, and real‑time coordination tools on the Connect platform. You’ll also receive personalized guidance from HSAFP staff and direct mentorship from the HSAFP executive team at every stage!

There is no fee to launch an HSAFP chapter. Founders and members simply pay the standard $25 annual HSAFP membership fee, the same for all students. If that fee presents a hardship, students can apply for a membership‑fee waiver by contacting support@hsafp.org

Local HSAFP chapters currently operate in the U.S. and Canada. If you attend high school in either country you can join an existing chapter or launch your own via our “Start a Chapter” page. Students outside these regions can still access HSAFP’s virtual curriculum through the Connect platform however.

Yes. Homeschooled students can join any existing HSAFP chapter by requesting access on the Connect platform. If there isn’t a local chapter, you can start a virtual or regional chapter through our “Start a Chapter” page. Virtual chapters meet off‑campus and don’t require a school advisor, just adult support, so homeschooled students are fully welcome.

HSAFP membership is $25/student for the 2025 to 2026 school year. This modest fee ensures we can continuously update and expand our monthly physician crafted curriculum, workshops and resources. Students pay through the HSAFP Connect platform (using Stripe’s secure payment system) ensuring their transaction is safe and protected.
